Hello, welcome to my website!
I have been creating my little angels since the spring of 2008. Throughout the
past 6 years, my babies have found homes all over the world (USA, UK, France,
Australia, Russia, New Zealand and Canada). This art is a true passion for me,
I have experimented with many different techniques, and one of the things I find
most fascinating about this art is that there is no one way to create my
babies. And there is always so much more to learn. I take great pride in my
work and put my heart and soul into each of the dolls I create.
So often I am asked this question and the best way I know how to explain it is
by showing a picture like the one above. My babies start as blank vinyl kits,
the actual features are already in the vinyl. It is my job to bring the doll to
life through painting, rooting the hair and weighting the doll. Each doll is
painted with many layers of translucent Genesis Heat Set paints. Between each
layer the doll is baked to seal the paint.
Layering many colors with different types of sponges and brushes is how I am
able to achieve that very life like, almost textured skin-tone. Once the desired
skin-tone is achieved, I then paint fine little veins, shade the creases, add
blushing to all the right areas, shade and gloss lips and nails, and also add
birthmarks, stork-bites and moles. After I paint my dolls, I seal them with a
final layer of a mix of varnishes, this not only adds to the beauty and realism,
it also seals and protects the paint.
The next step is mapping out the hairline and then beginning to root the baby’s
hair. I root with a 46 gauge felting needle. I take pride in my rooting, and
strive hard to only root one to two pieces of hair at a time. Each hair is
rooted in directional pattern from the cut end of the mohair. I spend endless
hours studying real baby photos to achieve realistic hairlines, growth patterns
and swirls. Once the hair is rooted I then seal it on the inside, so that the
hair can gently be brushed and styled.
From there the limbs are weighted with fine glass beads and sealed. Then they
are attached to a
weighted custom made due suede body.
Last I diaper the baby and dress them in a perfect going home outfit. I can also
pacifiers and bows upon request.
Reborn dolls are one of the most realistic dolls you will ever see or hold, not
only does the painting
and hair bring them to life, but because of the way they are weighted the feel
so very real in your arms.
